WWHD

Comparisons between Donald Trump and Adolph Hitler have been going on so long--at least a decade now--that they can seem tired and redundant. True, his first wife did say he kept a copy of Mein Kampf in a bedside cabinet. And Trump himself admitted that a friend gave him a copy of a Hitler book—but not that one. According to his former Chief of Staff, Marine General John Kelly, Trump once said, “Hitler did some good things…”, and on another occasion, “I need the kind of generals that Hitler had.”Recently, Trump has called political opponents “vermin”…claimed immigrants are “poisoning the blood of America”….and promised to eliminate “the enemy within.” Each is a direct echo of exact words that Hitler used.
And given more recent events, there is no doubt in my mind that his guiding political philosophy is “What Would Hitler Do?” (WWHD). Trump’s playbook is deranged—but not at all original.
Well, so what? If all this is just what Trump’s always done, what’s different now?

The answer to that is simple. Trump’s castle of towering lies and royal incompetence is crumbling around him. It’s not working the way he imagined. He knows deep inside that he’s going too far. Desperation is setting in. Mistakes are being made, no matter how much he denies it--or lies to himself. His instinct tells him always to double down.
All anyone around him can do is overreact. The deluded MAGAs and political supplicants who loved him for how he opened…are now beginning to realize that their emperor has no close.

Among his “day one” promises were settling the Ukraine War, bringing down inflation, and returning “competence and common sense” to the Oval Office.
Trump reveled in demeaning Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in front of cameras. Zelensky had warned that Russian president Vladimir Putin would not honor any cease fire agreement. Trump began “peace talks” unilaterally with Putin--who immediately violated the ceasefire Trump boasted about. And while Trump cut aid to Ukraine, the Ukrainians recently conducted one of the most audacious attacks in modern military history. Sending attack drones secreted in disguised trucks deep inside Russia, those drones destroyed or disabled 40 long range Russian bombers, each capable of carrying nuclear warheads to America. The White House reportedly knew nothing about this planning. So, while the U.S. stopped protecting Ukraine, the Ukrainians substantially took a major step to safeguard America.
In related diplomatic impotence, Trump demanded Israel stop plans for a massive missile attack on Iran. A day later, Israel began a series of direct strikes. Both Netanyahu and Putin giggle about Trump behind his back; but the world sees.
Inflation remains the number one concern of Americans.
And finally, the public is not buying the “competence and common sense” message. At this writing, Trump’s approval in the latest Quinnipiac poll has plunged to 38%...compared with 54% disapproving. (That’s lower than Biden’s ratings as he left office.)

The desperate lies and overreactions are making things worse. Turns out most Americans do not like kidnapping 250 people off the streets and sending them directly to an El Salvador prison--without charges or the chance to plead their innocence.
Trump used a small, mostly peaceful immigration protest in California as a pretext to call out the National Guard—over the objections of California Governor Gavin Newsom.
In response to those objections, Trump threatened to arrest him.
Newsom responded, “come and get me.”
And then a U.S. Senator was forced flat down on a hallway floor by security guards and handcuffed, arms behind his back, for trying to ask a question of the impossibly imbecilic Krisi Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security.
If you don't know a reference to "brown shirts", you might want to google that.-

All of the lies and propaganda and destruction of both institutions and governmental ethics and the brute force do mirror the mechanism of the Third Reich.
But I do admit the Trump/Hitler comparison falls short on one important point.
Hitler was perhaps the greatest external threat America had ever faced.
But Trump walks among us…our true enemy within.
